FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: Monday, April 9, 2018
Leslie Cockburn is the only candidate to have pre-filed a full slate of delegates in all 23 localities ahead of pre-filing deadlines. A total of at least 345 supporters will seek to be elected as delegates on her behalf at caucuses held throughout Virginia’s Fifth Congressional District. Two hundred and fifty delegates will be elected by voters at local caucuses between. These delegates will then go on to the 5th Congressional District Democratic Committee’s convention in Farmville on where they will select the Democratic nominee to run for the U.S. House of Representatives. Cockburn has already received 30 percent more support than needed to elect a complete delegation, demonstrating the strong momentum behind her campaign.
“I am honored to have such an outstanding delegation of community leaders, grassroots organizers, and energized Virginians standing with me at every caucus, from Lawrenceville to Dry Fork, Dillwyn to Warrenton,” said Leslie Cockburn. “We are building a strong and lasting network of leaders with whom we will not only win the nomination, but, most critically, organize in every corner of the 5th District to defeat Tom Garrett.”
Cockburn’s campaign is consistently out-performing the entire democratic field and has raised the resources necessary to kickoff a strong campaign for the general election. Cockburn has raised more than $700,000 to date, and in the first quarter of 2018, her campaign received more than 1,020 contributions, double the number of contributions received by her campaign in the prior quarter. Cockburn has personally driven 44,500 miles, crisscrossing the district to listen to voters in every county. As a result of the relationships she has built throughout the district, her campaign has recruited 345 delegates, more than 715 volunteers, and 30 organizing fellows.
All registered Democratic voters are welcome to participate in the caucuses held throughout the district next week. For more information, visit VA5Caucus.com.
