Mayor Levar Stoney, Minority Leader David Toscano, and Chris Long to Join Chloe Cockburn to Launch GOTV Weekend for Leslie Cockburn

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On Saturday, November 3, 2018, the Leslie Cockburn for Congress campaign will hold a number of canvass launch events to kick-off Get Out the Vote weekend and encourage Virginians to vote on Election Day.

Chloe Cockburn, Leslie’s daughter, will join Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, Virginia House of Delegates Minority Leader David Toscano, and Philadelphia Eagles Football Player Chris Long at three events in Charlottesville, starting at 9:00 AM ET.

Levar Stoney was sworn in as Mayor of Richmond on December 31, 2016 and is the youngest mayor ever elected to serve the city. Mayor Stoney served as Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia during a transformative time for the state, leading to President Obama's historic Virginia victory in 2008. At the time, he was the youngest leader of a state Democratic Party in the country. In 2013, he served as the Deputy Campaign Manager for Governor McAuliffe's successful gubernatorial campaign.

David Toscano is serving his seventh term in the Virginia General Assembly. He represents the 57th District (Charlottesville and part of Albemarle County) in the House of Delegates and, since 2011, has served as House Democratic Leader. David earned his law degree from the University of Virginia and served on the Charlottesville City Council from 1990 to 2002, and as Mayor from 1994 to 1996.

Chris Long is a defensive end NFL player and a two-time Super Bowl champion, having won a championship with the New England Patriots 2017, and a championship with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018. Long grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia, and attended St. Anne’s-Belfield School and later the University of Virginia. A football player in high school and college, he has the rare distinction of having his jersey number retired at St. Anne’s-Belfield School and was the first player to have his jersey retired while an active player at the University of Virginia.

Chloe Cockburn leads the Open Philanthropy Project’s strategy for investing in criminal justice policy and practice reforms to substantially reduce incarceration while maintaining public safety. Prior to joining Open Philanthropy, she oversaw state policy reform work for the ACLU’s Campaign to End Mass Incarceration. Previously, Chloe worked with the Vera Institute and the civil rights law firm of Neufeld, Scheck and Brustin, and clerked for Judge Sifton of the Eastern District of New York.
